Her middle to lower category economic condition did not dampen the determination of Heny Fitriyani (21 years old) to continue her education to college, especially when she found out that both parents support her wishes. Her enthusiasm for learning and achieving her dreams has been nurtured while attending her junior high school in Jatimulyo village. But, since then both of her ears have started to latch onto abnormalities. In recent times when her college activities were about to start, she was quite restless with her ear problems.

Likewise, Nurul Arista Pamungkas (13 years old) was in grade 4 elementary school of Dodogan Jatimulyo Village. Since she was a toddler, she has had problems with her right ear. The hearing loss made her less confident when hanging out with her friends.

The treatment process for both ears was uncertain before the ECED Coordinator of Jatimulyo village, Sri Wahyuni, contacted SurveyMETER in early March 2016. She asked SurveyMETER to help reduce the cost of treating school-aged children with hearing loss. They proposed three poor children school-age as targets as suggestions from the government of Jatimulyo village.

SurveyMETER examined the 3 children a week later at Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta and classified their results were as mild and moderate. A child with mild hearing impairment qualifications was advised to follow therapy, yet the two children with moderate deterioration need hearing aids thus far.

SurveyMETER initially contacted an NGO to cooperate with, but unfortunately, it could only provide help to patients with severe hearing-impaired qualifications. Since hearing loss for those who are in school is very disturbing so it was determined from the beginning that with or without allies, SurveyMETER social program must go on.

Until its time came to the unforgettable day for the two students, the deliveries of hearing aids were carried out on Wednesday, November 5, 2016, at their homes in Jatimulyo village, Dlingo, Bantul respectively.

“This relief is a SurveyMETER social activity and we just help for two children at this chance,” said Henry Setyo Nugroho, from SurveyMETER to the acting village head of Jatimulyo, Mr. Sunoto, at the village hall.

"Representing the government and villagers, we thank you for the assistance from SurveyMETER since we ourselves have not been able to help them," said Mr. Sunoto who also told about his flagship program to promote tourism villages after several hamlets found suitable destinations for sale. A few moments later, he took SurveyMETER to the house of the two children targeted for assistance.

"We are very grateful for this assistance, hopefully, it can help Nurul in her studies," said Mrs. Titik, Nurul's mother when her child was being instructed how to use a hearing aid. She said already tried several times to treat Nurul's ear with alternative herbal treatments. In fact, she had been deceived hundreds of thousands of rupiahs by them.

A shy smile tugged on Nurul's lips, "now, your voice sounds clearer, Sir!" said Nurul, answering a question from Mr. Sunoto that also tested its tool sensitivity.

At least, she would no longer worry nor would be frightened facing the commencement of college next month since these hearing aids could also be used during the learning process of the college. In addition, she remembered when she was in high school being repeatedly treated and having her ears checked by an ENT doctor costing a lot of money.

Quoted from Henry as conveyed to Mr. Sunoto, it was a small testimony that although the mentoring program was completed in early 2015 at Jatimulyo village, once assisted would never be left behind by SurveyMETER. At the end of the program, SurveyMETER encouraged each village to inform if anything that we might help with.

As previously informed, the SurveyMETER assistance program for two villages in the Bantul district with the support of the Knowledge Sector Initiative was completed in early 2015. However, the non-formal assistance was still being carried out. In fact, one of the hamlets in Guwosari Village was still being special assistance in the elderly issue by implementing SurveyMETER's 'CSR' funds.

The mentoring program was basically implemented in early 2013 with an agenda for assisting to issues of institutionalizing the village administration system, basic public services, and compiling village profiles in the two villages. In the next few months, the field of basic public services shifted to focus on ECED support and elderly health assistance.

Naturally, the responses of the two villages were different. The government and community leaders of Jatimulyo village were more responsive to the ECED program. Meanwhile, Guwosari village was in the elderly program and village profile preparation in the PRODESKEL application of the Ministry of Home Affairs by the effort to ensure the quality of the data collected.

The outputs of these mentoring programs at the two villages were generally by efforts to identify and develop village potentials as well as fostering independence and community participation to improve basic public services, especially on the elderly health assistance and early childhood education (ECED) support program issues.  (JF)

Pada Kamis (14/04 2016) kemarin, SurveyMETER diundang oleh Alzheimer Indonesia (ALZI) untuk memberikan pemaparan dan berbagi pengalaman mengenai pemanfaatan hasil-hasil penelitian untuk advokasi kebijakan kepada Peserta “Pencerah Nusantara”. Sesi yang diisi oleh SurveyMETER berjudul “Evidence Based (Research) as an Advocacy Tool” dan disampaikan oleh Ibu Bondan Sikoki, MA.

SurveyMETER mendapatkan kunjungan dari kelompok Mahasiswa Jurusan Hubungan Internasional Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Mereka yang berjumlah 13 orang berasal dari Divisi Penelitian Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan Hubungan Internasional. Mereka berasal dari lintas angkatan, mulai dari angkatan 2013 hingga 2016.

Dari SurveyMETER hadir menyambut tamu Direktur Eksekutif, Dr Ni Wayan Suriastini MPhil, Firman Witoelar PhD (Direktur Riset), Teguh Yudo Wicaksono PhD, Setyo Pujiastuti (Koordinator Training), dan beberapa staf lain.

The Special Region of Yogyakarta Dementia Study 2015 showed the elderly and the caregiver's level of knowledge in terms of Alzheimer's Dementia was low. The elderly know the term Alzheimer's Dementia only reach 20% while the companion/caregiver is 26%. Hence, It is necessary to spread the term "Alzheimer's Dementia" to afford to improve the prevention of People With Dementia (ODD) starting from the community and must be supported by all stakeholders and society in general.

It was conveyed by Wayan Suriastini on Friday, February 26, 2016, in Jakarta as the researcher of the study in front of the forum "Dialogue on the Development of Health Intelligence Development Profiles in the Regions" organized by the Center for Analysis of Health Determinants (on February 25-27, 2016) Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.

According to her, the dissemination of the term Alzheimer's dementia is required in order to promulgate the term Alzheimer's dementia to a wider circle of people then increase mutual attention and concern.

She further stated that health is one indicator of the achievement of a prosperous Indonesian society. Various kinds of health problems will appear simultaneously with the increasing age, one of which is cognitive or intellectual disorders. It is caused by a physical decline in the brain. Many terms appear to the disorder with senility whereas in fact the occurrence of physical decline in the brain may be caused by Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's dementia is a disorder that affects emotions, memory, and decision-making. It often goes undetected, regardless of the symptoms that might be experienced from a young age (early-onset dementia) and early detection can help People with Dementia (ODD) and families to afford to deal with the psycho-social effects of the disease.

The most appropriate and best effort at this time is to prevent disease. It may reduce health costs and burdens for the family. Prevention of disease will run well if promotive efforts can be carried out comprehensively by involving all stakeholders and the community. Many studies state there is an effect of knowledge on disease prevention, as a person's level of knowledge can influence someone in taking action.

Setelah selesai pengumpulan data lapangan pada pertengahan Februari 2016 lalu, Survei Sosial Ekonomi Rumah Tangga Perdesaan (SUSERDES) memasuki proses pembersihan data (data cleaning). Proses ini dilaksanakan di Kantor SurveyMETER dan ditargetkan akan selesai pada tanggal 11 Maret mendatang.

Bagi seorang anak remaja, usia 14 tahun adalah masa-masa kencangnya pertumbuhan. Pada usia ini dia akan banyak menemui kesempatan dan pilihan. Karena itu, remaja yang cerdas adalah yang pandai memanfaatkan kesempatan dan cakap menentukan pilihan pada usia ini. Bagi SurveyMETER usia 14 ini adalah kesempatan untuk memilih mengembangkan kemampuan dalam penelitian.

The Guwosari village elderly assistance program in Bantul district has yielded results. It has been running for almost a year and has developed an independent cadre for the elderly Posyandu Orchid.

Without any reminders nor did closely monitoring from SurveyMETER, they carried out the two main program activities very well. First, posyandu services, routine elderly exercises, and supplementary feeding (PMT) were carried out regularly every 2 weeks at 2 points. Second, visits to the bedridden elderly who were sick and just lying helpless at home were conducted regularly once a month, especially after the cadres received training on the formation of a hypertension club, post-stroke training and home care, and joint movement exercises.

quoted from the program coordinator, Titis Putri Ambarwati, having received the pieces of training, the capacity of the Orchid Posyandu cadres has grown fast. They are increasingly confident and independent in carrying out their activities. They also afford to do things from weighing, taking blood pressure measurements, performing gymnastics instruction, to inputting data into laptops. The laptop was a grant from SurveyMETER delivered during the training held on February 2, 2016.

The laptop’s aid is very supportive to monitoring the progress, maintaining performance effectiveness, and obtaining the independence of cadres. They were utilized to document elderly health data when conducting posyandu services. The recapitulation of the elderly health development data was respectively applied by cadres as a reference to provide advice or further examination services, then the elderly health data including the categorized hypertension or not was also referred to determine whether they could participate in the elderly exercise or not. SurveyMETER kerja sama dengan Tilburg University dan J-PAL SEA akan melakukan penelitian mengenai bisnis warung eceran di Jakarta. Survei tersebut dinamai Survei Manajemen Bisnis Warung Eceran di Jakarta. Pelaksanaan studi lapangan akan dilaksanakan pada Februari mendatang. Sementara ini proses studi memasuki tahap pendataan (listing) populasi sampel. Listing dilakukan mulai Jum’at (22/01/2016) kemarin dan direncanakan selesai 15 hari kedepan.
