Field data collection of the Community and Facility Survey (Comfas) of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) was implemented from March to August 2015. This survey is an integrated household and community longitudinal study that lasted for five waves since 1993 in 13 provinces in Indonesia (all provinces in Java, Bali, NTB, South Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra). The fourth wave of surveys (IFLS-4) was conducted in the second half of 2007 to follow 7,500 households and approximately 321 communities targeted.

Prior to carrying out field implementation, a Training of Trainers (ToT) was first conducted on January 19 - February 2, 2015, in Surakarta. Followed by training of prospective field assistants or Training of Enumerators (ToE) from February 17 to March 12, 2015, at the Grand Wahid Hotel Salatiga. There are 23 Comfas teams of field research assistants. Each team consists of 4 members with the composition of 1 local supervisor (Waslok) who concurrently acts as the CAPI data supervisor (Wascapi) plus 3 interviewers (enumerators). The entire team is North Sumatra A, North Sumatra B, South Sumatra, West Sumatra, Lampung, DKI A, DKI B, West Java A, West Java B, West Java C, West Java D, Central Java A, Central Java B, Central Java C, Yogya A, Yogya B, East Java. A, East Java B, East Java C, South Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, Bali and NTB.

The task of the Comfas team is to interview communities and facilities in each enumeration area based on the information provided by IFLS5 household respondents. The questionnaire consisted of 18 instrument books which included details of the Sampling Form, Village Community Characteristics Book (Kamades), Health Facilities Book and School Facilities Book (A, B, C, and D), and Price Books.
